Export Development in Palestine
12 December 2012
Upper Quartile is delighted to be working with the UN International Trade Centre in Palestine to support the development and capacity building for PALTRADE, the Palestine Trade Centre.
The project is focused on developing the 2013-17 Strategic Plan for Paltrade, and accompanying annual operating plan, and comes at a time when there is a clear momentum to develop a National Export Strategy for the territory, and to grow the export and trade performance of Palestinian companies.
Upper Quartile partner, David Gass, visited Palestine in late October to meet with PALTRADE senior officials, and a number of stakeholder and companies, and is now working with the ITC to put the 5 year export strategy into place.
The Strategy will focus on both working to develop new and growth markets for those Palestinian companies already involved in exporting, and also look to work with the wider Palestinian support organisations to create new exporting companies, and build the export capability of these companies.
The economy has particular strengths in the marble and stone, agri-food, and textiles and leather sectors, and a growing number of companies in the services sector, including ICT and finance, which all offer further export opportunities. New trade agreements and trade policy development to support Palestinian exporters, alongside work to open up new and better routes to international markets will also be a key area of the work of Paltrade, as well as working closely both within Palestine and outwith alongside the Palestinian diaspora to build the image and profile of Palestine in key export markets.
Building the export capability of companies from across the key industry sectors - an area where Upper Quartile has a strong track record - will also be a priority and PALTRADE will look to further develop its services and support in this area, alongside the trade development and promotion programmes in place.
The Strategy and Action Plan is due to be submitted for approval to the PALTRADE Board in December 2012.
